My son struggled with math and we tried a myriad of curriculum. I finally settled on Lifepacs even though I felt it was lacking. He LOVES it! He actually likes to do math now when before is was like pulling teeth to get him to do any math. I plan on using this for him through grade 12. It is pretty simply laid out, and very easy to follow. The Teachers guide is very useful and full of ideas. I didn't think I would like this program but I ended up really liking it.

I have a dd that struggles with math and one that finds it easy. They are both striving on LifePac. We have tried MUS, SOS and R&S. None of them seemed to work for my struggler. She does so well with LifePac that I will never change curriculum again. I use LifePac for math because my girls seem to get it better than any other curriculum we have tried or seen. I love the consumable worksheets! Thank you OAP!! Also, it is easy for the 'teacher'. Everything is in order in one teacher's book. There are also tips on teaching which is helpful when you don't have a teaching degree.

First off I have to say I picked this curriculum because I have always been horrible at math. The thought of everything being auto. graded by the computer was very appealing. What a mistake on my part! I have to say the thought behind this program is awsome but it has alot of flaws. While working on the lessons my son would get very frustrated because even though he knew a problem was right the program would mark it wrong, saddly to say I did not believe him at first but while going in to check his progress I noticed a lot of his missed problems were for things like mispelled words are not entering an answer the way the program was looking for, like for example leaving the hyphen out of number words. Although it is very easy to go in a change the grades, it kind of beats the purpose for the reasons why I bought the progrm in the first place. Another downfall, for us anyway, is that there is not much explanation in th lessons. My son would get very bored reading the lessons (typical boy with directions) he would try to skip the lesson and go right into the problems. There is an option to have the lesson read to you but the computerized voice is not very easy to understand. My son also had a hard time retaining the information for when the test and quizes came around. From expirence I would suggest that if someone did decide to use this curriculum that they have their child take notes or print out the lesson for later use. I would have to say this program is for those who have a stronge understanding of math and who is easily self taught. Overall I found the lessons adaquate and on target but just not for us. For our second year of homeschooling I have already started my research into other curriculums. I would be intrested in hearing from someone who has used both the SOS and the life pacs, for I have been looking into those as an easy transitional switch for what we did this year. Best of luck into your search!

I hate math!!!! I was very nervous about teaching our seventh grader math this year. We had done AOP Horizons through 6th grade and since that is the last grade it is available for we were really floundering when looking for something for 7th grade. I was not impressed with the Lifepac Math but couldn't find anything I liked better. I have to say that I was not thrilled with the way it was laid out or the way the answer key was AT FIRST. The step by step solutions are there for every problem and it seemed annoying. I had to really get used to it but boy, oh boy, as the math got out of the review phase (in the first couple of units) I was so relieved to have those step by step solutions since I had struggled so much with math myself in school.
There are probably better curricula out there for advanced students and teachers, however this is easy to teach, well explained and very comprehensive. If I don't remember the material from when I went to school, I just read through his lesson and look at the answer key at the step by step solutions and very quickly pick up on it again.
My son has a lot of learning disabilities and this was an easy transition for us from Horizons. He is not a Math whiz (the apple apparently doesn't fall far from the tree), but he is really getting this and seems to retain the lessons well.
