A Very Good Article to Read: Children and Technology

A Very Good Article to Read: Children and Technology

I've been so busy and haven't been on here in a while, but I saw this shared on my Facebook feed this morning, and wanted to share it with you all. It's very good- please read it!

My children are grown- my oldest is 34, my 2nd is 25, and my youngest just turned 20 and is now in college. I raised them at home before technology became so pervasive. With my son, I do remember he had little tickets for "computer time" in the later years. We didn't have TV, only our own dvds. My children were pretty much raised like this article says: Good food, routine bedtime, time outdoors, social interaction with family, dinner at the table, playing games, doing chores together...they were good days.

Technology is wonderful, but also is harmful, especially to children. I do encourage my own daughters, who each have 2 children, to not let tech over run the children's lives. I think both are managing it well.

Enjoy and be blessed and encouraged by this article:

Hooked is another good book as is Screens and Teens.
Moderation is key. Imaginative play, outside time, housework, hobbies, reading /reading aloud, etc. are all worthwhile pursuits.

Screen/tech addiction is a real thing. We must not let it become an idol and suffer the costs.

It doesn't happen to everyone, but I know of at least two families who are dealing with dc having seizures because of screen time. One family does allow a lot, but the other does not; their dc's time is very limited. This issue has caused them all sorts of problems, as you might imagine.

Another issue is that (as was reported on TV last night), the "big three" companies in America -- Amazon, Google, and Facebook -- are becoming very "big-brother-ish" (my word, which sums up the report). Privacy breaches are alarming. Even surveillance. Data was given; it's not speculation.

EEEEEEEEK!

Look at this article. (There's a brief video if you'd like, too; but you can just read it.)

http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/02/07/google-tracking-you-tucker-carlsons-report-silicon-valley-surveillance-capitalism

They took 2 phones, no SIM cards, no WiFi, nothing, around a 14 mile loop for an hour. Everything got tracked (Google), even when they stepped out of the vehicle, and where!

This is the type of thing you were sharing, Gr8ful.
