We didn't do one this year. I'm not sure about next year. We do a short family Bible lesson each day, the kids do AWANA work and a lesson and verse each week for Sunday School. Am I shortchanging them?

LOL
I never use one. I gave up on it long ago. We just read the Bible and I pick verses for them to memorize.

Not studying the Bible would be incredibly foolish. Not using a Bible curriculum isn't a problem at all. It allows you to tailor something to your family's needs.
I do think that memory work needs to be a priority for all of us, and it sounds like you have that covered.

Daily family Bible lesson and AWANA.....isn't that a Bible curriculum?
It's probably a sin unless you sing "Jesus Loves Me" everyday.
(Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

It sounds like you do Bible daily.
I have to admit, though, I love HOD, as Bible is integrated into history and science; it schedules daily devotions and quiet time; and Bible and Bible memorization and hymns are all part of our day. We used to use Sonlight, and Bible seemed too separate for my liking.

Millions of godly parents have been teaching their children about the things of God since long before the word "curriculum" was even invented. :-)
You're supposed to teach your dc when you rise up and when you lie down and when you walk on the road. As long as you do that, you're good to go. :-)

Some years we've used a curriculum & some years we've done our own thing: reading devotionals together, reading through a particular book together, or just using a copy of our pastor's sermon for further study during the week, etc. I think we learned equally from both styles. We'd probably get bored if we stuck with the same type of Bible curriculum every year.

Good points! Thanks for the input. For my daughter we used CLE Bible in first grade, and it was basically Bible stories to read each day, which yes, we do every day anyway. For next year, 3rd grade, BJU Bible looks great, more applicable lessons, so I'm considering it, I just hate to add to the "required work" in our schoolday. I just have a few friends who say "of course we start our day with Bible work" and were shocked that we didn't do that this year. I love how CLE and others that we use incorporate Scripture into all of the other subjects too. I guess I just wanted more input so thank you for it!!
