A basic World Geography curric? Abeka 6? ACE 9? Suggestions please

A basic World Geography curric? Abeka 6? ACE 9? Suggestions please

I need just a basic or elementary world geography curriculum-- textbook or workbook form preferred.

Nothing fancy, no living books thing.
I just want them to learn the basics.

I have scoured the Internet and I am coming up empty handed.

Anybody have a geography curriculum they have used and liked?
Or seen one?

Yesterday I asked my 6th grader to name a country-- he said Colorado - we both had a good laugh. :-)
But it showed me I need to get on the ball in that area.
Thanks!

I think I'm going to use Pacworks World Geography. They are workbooks.

Where could I look at 'Pacworks'?
Or order it?

I haven't heard of them before.

Is it like ACE?

Thanks!

The A Beka 5th and 6th grade books are great for elementary geography. There's also a little bit of history tossed in as well. My dd has really enjoyed the 5th grade book this year. She did the map book as well, and I feel this was just enough to give her a basic understanding of the world in general, with all of the various people groups and nations out there. There's a built-in atlas and some geography fact pages in the back of the book that are really helpful and match up with the geography assignments. I also had her read a couple of missionary bios to go along with some of the countries.

The 6th grade book focuses on the New World (N. and S. America), but we decided to do Notgrass ATB instead which will cover much of that.

In A Beka 4th grade, there's a heavy focus on learning all of the states and capitals, which she did last year.

Another option might be to do the Steck Vahn(sp?) wbks. that CLP sells with their grade level packages. We've done those before as well, but I prefer A beka due to the cultural aspect that they give along with learning the geography. A Beka does something with geography every. single. year. A student who goes through their history courses is going to know a LOT of geography by the time they finish.

This child loves workbooks-- so I checked out the pacworks first----woowee! $111.00!

For 6 workbooks-- luvmygirs-- have you got it yet?
Do you think it's worth it?
What age are you using it for?
This will be for a 7th grader.

Luvmygirls-- how does this compare to ACEs World Geography?

If it's good-- then I don't mind spending that.:-)

Off to check out the Abeka samples now.

For simply learning the names and locations of places there is a free computer program called Seterra. It is very easy to use, and as I mentioned, free to download. Just google it and you can find it.

We used this workbook a couple of years ago and liked it. Very basic.
