If my child is not REALLY a math kid (but certainly does o.k. in CLE so far). . . Will she be able to do CLE algebra independently? Should I switch now to a DVD/Online program, since CLE doesn't have anything further than algebra? Did you really like CLE algebra? Can it be done independently, even by a "not mathy" kid? You went from CLE to teaching texbooks, correct? How was this transition?
I'm sorry, I'm sure you've given this opinion 1000 times here. I haven't seen it.

My dd is not a mathy kid. She's definitely more LA oriented. She did CLE 700 then went directly into Algebra 1. She went from a 97 average to a 91 average. I didn't think that was too bad considering she was 7th grade age. We did go directly into TT Algebra 2 after CLE Algebra 1. 90% of it was review, but she felt she understood it better. Her grade didn't really show that, she still only had about a 90% average, but she feels like she understands it better. If I had it to do over with a non-mathy child, I would probable go from CLE 700 to TT Algebra 1. CLE is very rigorous (equal to Saxon or BJU), whereas TT is more gentle. CLE definitely lost it's gentle feel in the Algebra 1. She did do it indpendently, and seemed to be 'getting it', but in the end she felt like she knew how to do the problems but not really WHY they are done the way they are.
Ds is more mathy and I'm doing BJU with him. So far, we really like it too (better for him than TT would be). IF a mathy child did do CLE Algebra 1 and wanted to switch to TT, I would have them do the Geometry and then try a placement test for TT Pre-Calc. I really think a mathy kid who did CLE Algebra 1 could skip TT's Algebra 2, but I'd have them do the placement test just to be sure.
HTH =) I'll be gone this evening, but I'll try to remember to check in tomorrow to see if you have any more questions.

wow-----thanks for the advice. I will have her do a placement test in TT and see how she does.
