What are my options for this? Reasons you liked/dislikes them? We will be doing algebra one (we've used CLE until now)
I know of: Thinkwell Math Online Teaching Textbooks Chalkdust Math DVD's

BJU and Abeka. My son is finishing up Algebra 1 with BJU online right now.

homekeeper, Did you like the BJU algebra dvd?
|
Not DVDs, online (same content though). Yes, we really like the BJU online program. He found the Algebra easy to understand, liked the teacher a whole lot-thought she was funny, and had done well in the class.

Video Text Algebra We purchased the set used on eBay. It has excellent reviews. We have only used it a little - finishing module A. It isn't hard so far so we should like it. :).
Lessons are short - 10-15 min video lesson then the problems in the book - another 15 min. They suggest viewing the lesson - stopping the video and discussing it as needed then completing odd numbered exercises. The next day do the quiz for that lesson. If needed go and do the even numbered exercises. There are more exercises online that are free for more practice.
Kinda undecided because we haven't used it long. I wonder if there are enough exercises to really cement the concepts but so far dd hasn't really had a problem.
The used prices are fabulous and the reviews were so good that I had to try it!

My dd is finishing up BJU Algebra 1 on DVD. We have loved it! She has learned more easily this year in math than any previous year. It has really benefited her having the teacher explain things. She has somewhat of a hard time with comprehension when just reading on her own, and I don't really have the time to help her at this level since I have an 8 year old with learning difficulties. But she has done great with this curriculum. We have also loved the Grammar/Literature. Mrs. Vick is an awesome teacher!

A few more options:
Derek Owens Algebra - http://www.derekowens.com/ This is an online program that has gotten good reviews over on the WTM forums.
Math Relief Algebra - http://www.mathrelief.com/ DVD based program. Includes short lectures followed by worksheets. The instructor really breaks down algebra into small, incremental pieces without sacrificing any content. Seems to work especially well for struggling students as he doesn't assume a strong pre-algebra foundation and builds this into his instruction.
Kinetic Books - http://homeschool.kineticboo ks.com/algebraOne.php -------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want a live instructor:
http://www.myhomeschoolmathclass.com/ Online classes taught by an experienced math tutor. Has gotten good reviews on WTM forums.
http://www.liveonlinemath.com/ - Online classes meet several times per week.

We have used and will be using CD. Literally did not have to explain one thing to my dd. The teaching is great. If they need review they can watch the CD. We did the odds and then have the evens if you need more practice. I like that it sort of mimics the way they will learn in college. So far we have used from Basic to Geometry and all have been a hit for us.
