Those numbers make no sense to me...

Where did you get your data?

re: Some amazing hs stats! Guess I knew it, but "WOW" when you see the numbers!

It takes the assumed extra hours you spend with your children and adds up the total over the long-run and converts the number of hours into years.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding....are you suggesting that parents who work full time miss 18 years of their kids lives? Does that mean the entire life of the parent? I was reading this thinking it was about the first 18 years of your kids life.....but FT working parents don't miss ALL of those years, right?

re: Some amazing hs stats! Guess I knew it, but "WOW" when you see the numbers!

I think your math is wrong....
Kids go to school 8-3, which is 7 hrs a day.
7 x 5 days a week is 35 hrs a week. A school yr is about 9 months, so 35hrswk x 36weeks is 1,260hrs a yr, which is 52.5 days each yr. It comes out to 682.5 days that a child is a way from their parents for their entire school life, which is 1.9 yrs. I figured K-12th.

If I use your times.
8hrs/school x 5days/wk = 40hrs/wk, then take 40hrs x 37wks(which is 185 school days) = 1480hrs, which is only 61.6 days a yr. It comes to 800.8 days for K-12th, which is a little more than 2yrs for childs entire school life. Say your child is in daycare from 3-6pm, and it still only comes to 55hrs/wk that your child is away from you. So during the school yr (185 days) 55hrs x 37 wks = 2035hrs, which equals 85 days per yr and 1105 days for the child entire school life, which is a little over 3 yrs for K-12th. If you add in summer and the child is in daycare, that is 3 months(90 days including weekends) * 9hrs/day = 180 hrs, 180/24 = 7.5days/yr.

I am not sure how you are getting 6 1/2 yrs and 18 yrs....

Well, whether the numbers are off or not (my brain is too tired right now to even attempt figuring it out), one of the benefits of home schooling is BEING with our children ALOT ;)

re: Some amazing hs stats! Guess I knew it, but "WOW" when you see the numbers!

So I get almost 2 extra years with my kiddo? Considering I am so old and therefore will be dead when she finishes college, that is awesome!

Thank you for the applied math lesson of the day.

I didn't mean for you to delete it. I am sorry :( I was just trying to figure out how you got 6 yrs and 18 yrs. I do agree though we are with them a lot more! :)
