Has anyone had their child do TT 3 math with 6 yo? Ds took a placement test and he placed in 3rd grade TT math. He only missed 2 questions with were multiplication and we have not done any of it yet. How easy is it to follow the program for a young student? (he does know his way around the computer and can read very well).
Thank you ladies for any advice.

I let my 7yo do TT 3 this year. I wasn't expecting her to do well-- it was mostly to keep her busy. She loved it and has done great. If she gets less than a 91%-- I have her do the lesson over. But this rarely happens.
I'll bet if you do 1 lesson with your child-- they will pretty much get the hang of useing the mouse real quick. If they took the placement test--- I say go for it.
We are also using Horizons math along side TT. Even though my child is scoring high-- there is not alot of retention.
I think at this age they must really need to 'write' the math and have some 'hands on' for it to stick.

I think at this age they must really need to 'write' the math and have some 'hands on' for it to stick. --------- Hmmm... I was wondering about this too. My 7 yo first grader also just recently placed in to TT 3 and REALLY wants to do it for next year. He loves the computer and thinks it looks fun, but I'm wondering how it will compare in terms of enough practice and drill to the A Beka that he's been doing. It's a big chunk of change to drop on something just to keep them busy. :-/ Plus, I don't want to have to feel the need to have two programs going for supplemental purposes.
More Hmm...

I love TT but it does not have enough drill. I just use flash cards to remedy that. Monday: addition. Tuesday: subtraction Thursday: multiplication Friday:division

I wouldn't do TT3 with a 6 yr old even if they understood the math. It isn't as simple as it seems from the placement tests and it goes fairly quickly through some topics to get to multiplication and division. Your child will not have their math facts down if they start TT3 at 6 without using something else to supplement. Personally, I don't think a 6 yr old needs to be doing math independently on the computer. I would find a 1st or 2nd grade level math to work with my six year old child. My older children are doing TT, but my kindergarten child is doing K12. It is Oxford Sadlier math and you go through part of it with your child on the computer and do pages from the math workbook and then assessments from the student pages.

My son is 6 (Aug. bday) and zoomed through TT3 this past fall/winter. He gets math easily, though, and knows his facts without having drilled them. I did not move him right into TT4 because his 8 yr. old brother is still in TT3. Instead I bought him Singapore Challenge book 2A. He is able to do the math but it makes him think deeper than TT3 ever did. We will continue working through the Singapore Challenge and Intensive Practice books this summer, then go back to TT4 this fall.
