If you have used EIW

If you have used EIW

I did think I was going to go with EIW, but ds thinks he would like to give 7th grade a try. Honestly, I appreciate his input on this b/c he does not really like to write though he does ok at it.

So maybe we will give this a try.

So my question is do you like this curr? And did you buy the workbook printed out? If not, do you wish you did?

THanks!

re: If you have used EIW

We like it and are using it again this year. I did not get the printed workbook but I will this year. My printer is kinda crappy and for me it will just be easier to have it already printed.

re: If you have used EIW

We have enjoyed the brief and interesting lectures in EIW.
Our daughter is very auditory and really thrives on having a "teacher" to listen to and watch. I watch it with her
and it holds our interest. The worksheets are well done. We will be buying the preprinted ones next time. It's worth the 20.00 to not have to print and hole-punch/bind, imho.

re: If you have used EIW

We love Essentials in Writing. All three of my children used it last year and we'll be using it again next year. dd-10th, ds-7th, and ds-4th. It's easy to use and it doesn't require a lot of my time even though I can be involved as I want. Hope this helps.

re: If you have used EIW

got the 7th grade one a few weeks ago for the purpose of helping me get through end of year to do a research paper.....
so I had a very focused purpose.

video did not hold attention of me and definitely not my child.... so it meant I was more involved in teaching. I should have understood that element more when the author of the program told me in person "I designed it like Math U see"....

ah.. that means I watch it and then teach it... got it.... and if child watches with.. ok.. got it... but still... I had hoped. :) LOL. it's alright. we're getting the paper done.

my Charlotte Mason side of me came out in the early lessons in 7th grade - so we didn't print the worksheets. did out loud, and wrote from screen onto paper, and dry erase board. those seemed drills to me. not saying that's bad.. just saying I didn't feel the need to do it as worksheet.

I like the checklists for research paper and printed one or two lists. those are nice and helpful.

I guess I see this as a teacher's resource instead of a program. I can tell I don't match the earlier levels of the program (it's too much grammar focus... as my husband says, we can diagramm up a storm, doesn't mean we can write a sentence)
but 7th grade one was nice for its purpose.

$20 for pre print on workbook isn't bad price. I haven't needed it, but I was using the program a little differently.

we can resell these dvd's right? I'll be done soon and ...

re: If you have used EIW

I'm considering EIW for next year.
And shoot...Crystal, your dc sound like mine! MUS videos kill us. Kids would rather I give a 2 min introduction and then they take over on the assignment. So now I'm wondering if EIW will work for us.

I wonder if I'd be better off getting a few graphic organizers online and then going from there. I was just hoping to remove myself from the emotional calamity of writing:)
